Earlier this year, Principal Tuong Huynh and Architectural Designer Matt Ulassin generously contributed their time to help design a brand new space for kids to learn and play in the Strawberry Mansion section of Philadelphia. A gym in this low-income, high-crime section of Philadelphia, had fallen into disrepair years ago and was brought to the attention of The Police Athletic League of Philadelphia (PAL) - a community outreach program of the Philadelphia Police Department whose mission is "Cops Helping Kids." PAL decided this gym would be a great location for a new community recreation centre for children in the neighbourhood.
PAL reached out to the Building Owners and Manager Association (BOMA) to pull together resources to construct a new space for kids to learn and play. The effort was led by Don Haas of Brandywine Realty Trust and Richard McClure of Kennedy Willson. All in all, the project's cost was over $300,000, however with everyone's support, the project was delivered for free. L2Partridge was happy to be part of the team. Tuong and Matt contributed design resources and drafted plans for the new facility which ultimately were used to construct the space.
Earlier this week, we received two kind thank-you letters, one signed by the mayor of our great city, Mayor Jim Kenny; and the other signed by Police Commissioner Richard Ross. Both were a warm reminder that good deeds don't go unnoticed. The building is now complete and children have been enjoying the new recreational space.
The project was featured on 6ABC News back in April.
